About Me

As a Jack of some trades, and master of few, I find this inspiring, and share it with you - Advice to a Young Poet - Ondra Lysohorsky Don’t spend yourself in the small copper coins of complaint and accusation. Don’t answer those in authority, those who fancy themselves all-powerful, with grubby, fingered words for which you’ll be picked up at three in the morning. Answer with pictures that no one has ever painted, answer with thoughts which no one has ever thought, answer with verses which no one has ever fashioned, answer with a language which no one has ever uttered. Not with the sword, poet, will you sly tyranny but with the freshness of spring and autumn’s maturity. Beaten and blood-stained, strike your gold coins, heavy with the destiny of your age, heavy with your own destiny, golden coins bearing your own likeness, reflecting mankind’s suffering against the background of man’s two million years upon our planet. Such coins shall stay in circulation even after ten thousand years, valid like life’s rebellious spring, like life repeating itself, ever-youthful— while the coins with the theatrical, proud and imperial gestures— the measure of pride reflecting stupidity— will long have lain dead in the museum show-cases under artificial light, shunning the sun, dead for a thousand years. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 8 Continue to be ‘She-her-i-zed’ with occasional shares from this Canuck’s collection of non-fictional letters to friends - enhanced with some esoterically-themed fiction! --_ --_ --_ - 8) ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ “Dear ‘Mr. Goldman’, ... The ... is silent ... I’m keeping it real over here ... Thanks so much for continuing to housesit after I decided to extend my surprise trip to Mount Seymore - but ... heads up! - Kiki will only eat my homemade busikets - so if you run out - the recipe is in the drawer - under the wraps - and feel free to let ‘The K’ out of the back yard! Also - I much enjoyed our last chat - however my number has changed to ... - so do colly me again soon! ... big hogs ... MAO”

Another attempt at a collabo-lyric with Pekkepop’s - see - https://www.hookist.com/single-lyric-view/?lyric_id=24424 Procrastination - won’t build a foundation / And with this silver platter - of what really matters / My cornerstone (or time capsule) I will endow

My take on Pekkepop’s lyric - see - https://www.hookist.com/single-lyric-view/?lyric_id=24424 Procrastination - won’t build a foundation / And with old silver platters - of woes that don’t matter / My castle walls won’t be endowed

I drowned in an ocean - Of confusing emotions - I believed many words - That in my eyes blurred - The line between me and the clouds
Those overtime hours - Taste sweet but yet sour - And I met with rock bottom before I recovered - And found how I’m truly endowed
But (part of - OR - I learned) the key note - Is we’re all in the same boat - There’s plenty of sand - And we’re all helping hands - Together we’ll build them somehow
I was self-deluding - So who was I fooling? - Jumping through hoops - Getting stuck in these loops - But I’m so antisphexishness now!
With the blessing of Lovie D’Sa - I’m submitting our collabo-lyric (see comment for original) At the edge of the ocean - Where faith meets devotion - I untie my boat - Of dreams and lost hopes - Knowing I’ll catch up somehow
I must have been dreaming - Of many roads meeting - As I (stood by / fell off) the wayside - I heard from great heights - That I won by a landslide somehow

Our song of love & dedication / Of brothers born & brothers sworn
Here's another take on Pekkepop's line - Now's the time for inspiration, our song of love and dedication, / of brothers born and brothers sworn, to walk the walk and brave this storm
Truth is we've rocked the tests of time / Let's roll with faith across the line
We know we've stood the tests of time / Let's keep our faith and cross the line
Let's rock our faith for hidden signs / That's how we've rolled through test(s) of time
Let's ground our faith and see (or read) each sign / That's how we've rolled through test(s) of time
So believe as we hit this road, with or against the wind / I'll always be there for you to hold, helping lean into every bend
Together we're power, together we're strength / It's time to win this battle, and we'll go to any length
For you've found yourself faced with a former ally turned to foe

Congrats to Kathryn and Paul for completing our bridgeness! Also thank you for accepting my multiverbal chorus suggestions which can also include Dan Herman's "must", if all are in favor. Here is a Comedic Break: I am delighted to have discovered the MTM Show for the first time in the last month, because I was very young during its original run, and found it too grown up and boring. As many examples of the woes of humanity echo throughout the microcosms of each of our daily lives, as well as in the plot of this episode, which outlines the use of wisdom in executing the power of both positive and negative forms of knowledge, I hope this inspires, at least, some laughter for you today. The entire episode is great, but my favorite segments are at 3:54 - 6:05 and at 21:10 - 22:55 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tw9T1G5uSc0
Hey Hookists - I could use more time for ideas today - you?
But this was our nature right from the start / We knew best, as children, how to open our hearts
A rough bridge idea based on the fact that students are also teachers sometimes - But why is it there's been no end to our plight? / We need to recapture our own childlike sight

I appreciate Saturday's enthusiasm regarding my suggestion and the application of Dan's contraction. Not to beat a live chorus, but since there will be more repetitions of it, perhaps an extra sense of gradual movement and variation can be also be achieved by saving the chosen "We're / We'll" version for AFTER the surley epiphanous bridge - and placing an additional version using "CAN" BEFORE the bridge - "WE CAN find a better way/ The dawning of a new world starting today (kathryn simova) / WE CAN build bridges, knock down walls / Love and peace for one and all (rsmithline)"
I have a suggestion - the second chorus could be something completely different - or - just a more affirmational version of the first - for example: WERE GONNA find a better way/ The dawning of a new world starting today (kathryn simova) / WE WILL build bridges, knock down walls / Love and peace for one and all (rsmithline)
Today, this world could really use a better sleight of logic / It's "So long, and thanks for all the fish" if we remain lethargic

For all the lonely young children that never belong / and for even the ones that keep kicking them down
And then he grieved for the childhoods that light never saw / for motherly hearts that never unthaw
If you want fun, then Oooh La La - listen to this - New York's hottest song is: Santa's Untold Story - Don't be thrown off if you hear a chanting Crash Test Yogi - you're on the right track! This song has everything - great rhymes, wormholes, safety equipment, altitude, blizzards, humor, a hopped up drone, regression, ..... (congrats Marcel Bingley, rsmithline, Qortni Medovichova, kathryn simova, and Ray Lonsdale!)
In an instant - they were just Harvey and Nick / when Christmas meant something and wasn't so slick / In a world filled with parcels of treacle and coal / they would share their good cheer and feed many a soul
For just a split second, the drone made some racket / then - zing! - it sailed off through time's infinite fabric
He gulped down some Gravol, while he gathered his wits, / then took a deep breath, and waved with his mitts
Young HE said, "Halloo! What happened to you? Now hear out the Bunny, our wife, and the crew!" / "(Even) our NEIghbor has moved, yet you keep spending time / at the FORTress next door mumbling nonsense that rhymes!"
He gingerly types "Humbug" and it opens wide / "I knew you would choose that!", his visitor cried --> [From inside the box rose two long fluffy ears/A bunny emerged to applause filled with cheers (pamby1)]
A voice from within the box speaks up at last / and a keyboard slides out as he stands there aghast (mostly pamby1) / "I’m stuck in here till you let me out/ Just enter the password to what Christmas is about" (kathryn simova)
Each year it has come since he grew disenchanted / Just a note with a wish that has never been granted
Inside was a nametag, a stocking hat - and - a ransom note listing a single demand
I switch to full throttle, let go of the choke
another take on Shefik's line --- We have tried to cross the bridges that we left too often burned / Now let's build some new ones with the lessons learned
We unite, to face addiction, not just now but every day, / keep a light on and the darkness far way
It imprisons with deception, sowing darkness, fear and pain / What's your weapon when Addiction calls your name?
There's a war against addiction that's is growing and well known / yet so many face each battle all alone
See comment - inspired by pamby1 - Well we hear it all the time - a life extinguished far too soon / Does it strike a chord or play the same old tune?
It is found on any corner, touching every walk of life / and it cuts both ways, this double sided knife
There's a darkness in the shadows, hunting both sides of the tracks and it's victims keep on falling through the cracks
It is found on any corner, touching every walk of life / It's a darkness roaming each side of the tracks
There's a darkness in the shadows, hunting every walk of life / It's addiction haunting both sides of the tracks
There's a soul whose life was darkened by an unexpected storm, / who was tempted by a shelter strange but warm
Sing for life, sing for liberty / sing for strength and recovery

I always watch the videos doubly - In case I miss a subtlety - As per our Captain Natalie - End your lines with "silently" - Or at least with words that rhyme with "me"! - (Click on "Watch" in WINNERS' CIRCLE at the top of page) ---- Concerning feedback. Here are my thoughts I was inspired to write last week but never posted as this is long winded. Some points have been expressed by others long ago but not for a while as far as I know. Sorry if some this seems obvious but it wasn't all obvious to me when I got involved last year -(1)- Read the comments in the "WINNERS' CIRCLE" - twice! -(2)- Watch/listen/read The Artist's video/notes - twice! (I find that it's easy to miss crucial stuff) -(3)- Copy all the chosen lyrics into a Notepad/TextEdit and start writing right underneath where you can always assess how your line fits/makes sense with what is already there -(4)- If necessary use online resources - eg - dictionary/thesaurus, "rhymes with ??", "ends in ??" -(5)- THAT being said - We are all, largely, read but unheard voices amongst ourselves here - even those who have been involved from the beginning - and of course texting is never the same as knowing someone and speaking face to face - YET - there is such a special unique intimacy in writing lyrics from our hearts and sharing them - immediately! - whether they directly relate to the song or whether you feel like sharing an occasional Comedic Break - Hookist is like a virtual "Dead Poet's Society" if you will - My experience is that it can sometimes be challenging to be myself and express my sense of humor, while being careful not to offend within my comments regarding someone's Art - so I do it sparingly unless I'm full of beans that day - I often make a fool out of myself - (yes it's true) - for as Jerry wrote recently - "My words slip out before I pause to think. Sometimes I’d do better by putting them to ink" - (that doesn't always help either when I'm convinced something I'm driven to write is a really good idea but in reality may not be - like this essay for instance) - BUT, the Hookist community is very empathetic, giving and protective - Noone involved is in any way an average person - If anyone wants more detailed feedback from others, just ask and ye shall receive!- I'm always open to feedback and collaberation - If I agree with a suggestion, I say so - if I don't, I explain why without taking any offense -(6)- Take every opportunity to give Jerry Brace, Walker Todd Davis and Dan Herman a hard time. - Cheers! Mary Anne Ocho
Your eyes saw just as silently
You suffered just as silently
You'd leave my life as silently
Now my wait ends silently
Their fate non sequitur
And time stands still

My pride has faded with the mist, and now I see the crime / I never heard the song between your words until this time
I was too proud to listen - now I realize my crime / Your soul was singing in between - your words for all this time

For a long time we've journeyed, through darkness and light. Even soul mates are bound to, occasionally fight.
For when our ship yaws, and the crew grows unkind, above all we let, understanding unwind
I must flake off instead of out / escape this limbo, where time crawls

This was really fun to craft during my travels yesterday. Don't mean to write the entire 4-guitar-riff chorus - not sure whether the chorus will indeed take up that entire section either. Just got lost in my ideas and couldn't stop. I am putting this all in one post to explain my vision. I will also try to record this today to Gary's guitar track (if I can get around to it) - just to see how it sounds. The same idea could be used with other submitted lyrics. ******** The lyrics I wrote to recap our protagonist's plight can be chanted exactly to the rhythm of the guitar riff. I hear it as multiplied voices sounding like a heavenly choir. The options I give are easier to say, or, cool but harder to say.--------> He found himself on a wire / Got burned by keepers of fire (OR - Got burned and baptized by fire) / Infernal songs of the choir / Torment the soul of the liar (OR Torment his soul like a pyre) Devil's dance Devil's dance / Devil's dance of destiny (Dan Herman) / This dance of Destiny / by Faith will set you free (M. Ocho)
Astra castra, numen lumen / Astra castra, numen munimen ----> A neat Latin motto used for many things - Emily Dickinson named a poem after it - was inspired by Lora to submit an extended version of it ----> The stars are my camp, the Deity is my light / The stars are my camp, the Deity is my guard
(Guilt or Shame or Fear) is just the Devil's preacher / Destiny's a loving teacher
