Like ole’ Scrooge he did sail, round broad span of his life / Cross the myriad shadows and the twinkling lights
To the rabbit’s dismay, there sailed out of a cloud / a bright, shiny sleigh as Santa bellowed aloud. “No more golden snow angels, no more whittling trees. / These times are a’changin’, something blows in the breeze.
Then slowly but surely, an epiphany grin / he placed his hat on his head and adjusted the brim. Mr. rabbit I tell you, you have shown me the light, with a dash of Vermouth, I can now set things right
What the hell is it, just what could it be? / wind-up toy soldier, an X-Box for me?
Santa stood there dumbfounded, in his old Christmas socks / befuddled by the way they delivered this box.
The ELVES they all FEAR him and BOW to his WHIM; and EV-en poor RU-dolph's red NOSE has grown DIM
Behind twinkling eyes and a bowl full of jelly / beneath the red velvet, beneath the round belly.
You see now earlier that day, it was jingle all the way, Santa at the store with kiddies on his lap. Little Candice cut the cheese, little Billy had to tease, pulling whiskers, pulling off his stocking cap.
As he stumbled out the door, snow was flying all the more and he cursed beneath his breath, "for shit-sake please"; "Help me make it down the road, get me back without forebode and I'll never have another drinking spree.
Way up north, 'twas December 24th; there's a fat man leaning propped up on the bar. With a twinkle in his eye from a little too much rye, he exclaimed, "I'll be headin' for my car.
In time I will read it, someday I will know. Your reasons for leaving, why you would go.
The corners are tattered, the seal not torn. I hold it for hours, morose and forlorn.
The letter has been there, untouched, for so long. You left it there for me and then you were gone.
There on the mantel, unfettered by time, veiled in paper, aging like wine.
And dreams they are just that, just dreams/Flights of fancy, some too chancy, tiny flaws in gravity.
Upon the ragged rocks and looking down she understood
And danced and soared and sailed so high, she glanced back once and waved goodbye.
Into the bright blue sky she flew/Up to the clouds she sailed thru
To fail this is to die inside/With wings outstretched her fears subside
Though feathers tattered, the gentle breeze, took her far above the trees
Gossamer wings into blue vaulted sky/Gently she sings about how much she longs to ask why.
She would never look back, never look down/Carried on a breeze like the bright autumn leaves she'd skip town.
A little less waiting, and a little more dare/The love that you're showing, will carry you there.
Time, like a sunset slips away behind me/your eyes, like a new day sunrise, reflecting possibility
Take another trip around the sun, save some space for me before the moment is lost, or won.
From innocent child to worldly wise/Life passes by you on lows and on highs.
Your storybook ending, is fading from view/Time to keep writing the book that is you.
Live in the moment, break from the cage/Cherish the love and let go of the rage.
Skip over the prologue, get right to the point/I'll give you a spoiler if you pass me a joint.
The wolf said "hey Red, how'd you see my true color." Red said, "Mister Wolf, I just Tweeted your mother."
Sadness? It sails on the cold wind of sighs/ it falls down in teardrops as it rains from your eyes.
Wish to remember, choose to forget/ long gone is the child that grew up to regret.
All in good time, or so it is said/but what's good about time after all has been fled.
A walrus spies Alice through his looking glass eyes, kaleidoscope colors, an effective disguise.
Make me forget, forgotten again/ yesterday's memory, the original sin.
I think you're really snazzy, a little slice of razz-ma-tazzy.
Around the bend, a landscape, shapeless/ Fires familiar reverie.
The face seems familiar, yet a stranger still/ A shattered likeness scattered on a weathered window sill.
Phantom foe, forever faceless
Doppelganger, known and nameless
Static signal, far and fleeting / A broken record, left repeating
A picture now painted like Dorian Gray, unnerving, horrific, very specific, for this life, my soul I must pay.
A dreamer dreams and sees the future, the seer sees and tells the dreamer what life really has in store. Quote the seer to the dreamer, the dream is over. Never more.
Here before, gone tomorrow. Faith no more and lost in sorrow.
Shadows from familiars cast, Tulpa from my childhood's past. Reaching out to tap my shoulder, haunt me now that I am older.
Darkness falls like wounded raven. Foreshadows grim and no safe haven.
Beyond this door? Been there a thousand times before. No dark uncanny repetitions, no vague recall of apparitions. Just to and fro, to work I go, till time my bitter end will show.
Pop culture spacemen going nowhere, boldly strapped into an armchair. In syndication, baby, we've all gone there before.
Mindless hashtag typing skills, online girlies and wifi bars, a waining interest in the stars.
Inhale the first, exhale the last. The time between, can be obscene or put to honest use.
Deepest space, deeper still, like placid ponds and tiny cells The dreamer lost, the cheaper thrill, becomes the lie the pitchman sells.
The holes we dug with megatons, growing mushrooms out of fire. Knocking down the buildings, our destruction we conspire.
Star-crossed. Monkey tested, freeze-dried cookies tossed. I'm lost. Up chuck. Floating past my helmet glass, I'm stuck. Zero G's and I'm 'a twerking on the thruster I'm 'a working, levelin' off the angle of decent. Günter Wendt, slammed the hatch behind me now I'm heaven-sent. Go fever, pull the lever down about a half a tick. Receiver, catch'in static on the Houston line. CHORUS LEM is sailin' smooth, yeah crusin' fine. Touchdown now about happen, In my suit I'll be a'crappin' real soon. Tell them all the Eagle landed on the moon.
Drinking in the glow of moonshine, Floating through the stuff of dreams, Feather wax is surely melting, I'm falling faster than it seems. Orbits decay, slipping away like time. What's left to say, at the end of the day we all try to sail Or try and fail Either way, experience so sublime. Crossing into starlight splendor, Firefly lights from ages past. Nothing that my mind's eye conjures Prepares me for a space so vast. Orbits decay, slipping away like time. What's left to say, at the end of the day we all try to sail Or try and fail Either way, experience so sublime. All the time, to shape my wings, never a fear to fall, All the time, to reach the sky, to see beyond the bright blue wall.
