ABOUT ME

Hello, 
My name is Matthew Chambers and I am a songwriter. I've been writing songs on guitar for over forty years since my late teens. I first got the bug from listening to my friends album collections as I grew to appreciate the writers of the songs. I would pour over the album liner note, lyrics, song credits, producers, studios, etc....somewhere along the way I began to try playing guitar and eventually competent enough to put some of my early poems to girlfriends to music. So I've written a fair number of songs that I felt were good enough to add to my songbook. A lot of songs haven't made it to the book. I keep'em around though to maybe recycle parts for other songs. I'm a husband of 20 years and dad to a 16 year old daughter and an 11 year old son. Since retiring as an elementary school visual arts teacher of 30 years in 2017, I have gone on a deep dive into songwriting as never before. I've been learning on TAXI TV and also at SongTown...it's like college for songwriting...all self study through interaction with other writers. I've learned that I write pretty good songs....and that there are a myriad of ways to make my songs even better that I am learning and applying in my songwriting. I want to write songs about ordinary folks and extraordinary circumstances and how ordinary life is full of extraordinary moments. Some of family life makes it's way into my songwriting as well as wonderment of life, social and sometimes political subjects. I try to make a statement that anybody could make, though maybe few do. I hope that some part of my song finds a connection to each listener in their own way of understanding and perhaps breaking new ground in the soul towards greater understanding of one another as beings in this world.
